Why During School Hours
1. Truly “Equal Access” for all Families:
Every parent equally can choose religious instruction through Released-time. The Released-time Education laws were designed to truly provide “equal access” by placing the right to religious instruction within the school day itself when ALL students would be present.
In contrast, many obstacles are faced by after-school programs operating within the “Equal Access” law. Dependence on school bus transportation and conflicts with sports programs eliminate most families from truly accessing the right to religious instruction “after school.”
2. “Gains” outweighing “Losses”:
The modern classroom regularly incorporates supplemental activities and instruction segments presented outside the immediate classroom; PREP simply becomes one of those. Our students are “released” for approximately one hour out of their 30-hour school week and usually adjust smoothly to making up any missed work, with many teachers and parents consistently reporting various improvements to student academics or behavior.
“A report from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency found that children in released-time classes did as well or better academically than their classmates who do not attend.”
3. Maximized Teaching & Learning:
Because of our daytime time slot, students come to our classes in study-ready, learning-mindset which allows genuine teaching and maximum learning to take place. Because the Judeo-Christian Scripture is a historical, evidence-based document, we believe it appropriately finds it place alongside the study of other facts and histories during school hours.
